At Marin Integrative Recovery, we believe in a holistic approach to care. Using a complex system of diagnostic methods, the health of the person as a whole is considered – mental well-being, physiological systems, and emotional state.

In this way, Dr. Noemi discerns the patterns of disharmony rather than isolated symptoms. The aim is not only to eliminate or alleviate symptoms but more importantly to treat the underlying cause, thereby increasing the ability to function and improve the quality of life.

ACUPUNCTURE

Studies have proven acupuncture reduces anxiety and stress by reducing cortisol levels. Acupuncture also stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers, making it an excellent natural treatment for any type of pain.

Acupuncture is a technique in which fine needles – the width of just a few human hairs – are inserted into the skin to treat health problems. Dr. Noemi specializes in the treatment of orthopedic conditions, adrenal fatigue, autoimmune conditions, and mental health.

Herbal medicine complements acupuncture treatments to relieve or resolve various conditions and for systemic support. Herbs may be prescribed individually, in a combination formula, or as food therapy.

Although herbs are natural, they are powerful medicinals! This is what makes them effective, but it can also mean that, taken incorrectly or in combination with certain medications, they can also be dangerous. It’s very important to take Chinese herbs under the care of a qualified practitioner. Dr. Noemi combines her pharmaceutical industry experience with her extensive training in herbology to ensure patient safety when prescribing herbs.

HERBAL MEDICINE
INNOVATIVE LAB TESTING

Dr. Noemi is a firm believer in an integrative approach to health, drawing from both the latest technological advancements in scientific research and the ancient wisdom of traditional healing methods. She is excited to partner with various cutting-edge labs that offer specialized testing. As a primary care provider in the State of California, Dr. Noemi can also order routine labs or bloodwork that may be relevant to your health conditions.

Infrared heat therapy delivers penetrating wavelengths of red light to treat pain and inflammation and promote cellular repair. Benefits include detoxification, pain relief, reduction of muscle tension, relaxation, mood enhancement, improved circulation, weight loss, skin purification, lowered side effects of diabetes, boosting of the immune system and lowering of blood pressure. Infrared heat therapy is included in all acupuncture treatments.

Unlike ultraviolet light, which can damage the skin, infrared light enhances cell regeneration through stimulation of the mitochondria, the energy powerhouses of cells. Infrared heat has an anti-inflammatory effect, stimulates the secretion of endorphins and increases serotonin, making it an excellent treatment for depression and chronic pain.

It also stimulates the production of nitric oxide which helps relax the arteries, prevents blood from clotting and clumping in the vessels, and regulates blood pressure. By improving blood circulation, nitric oxide provides more oxygen and nutrients to injured tissues. Thus, infrared light hastens wound healing and stimulates the regeneration of injured tissues, reducing inflammation and pain.

Studies have shown benefits for patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia.

Our infrared lamps also contain a heated mineral plate made of a proprietary formula of 33 trace elements, which further stimulate the body’s natural healing properties.

INFRARED HEAT THERAPY
MASSAGE

Massage is included in all acupuncture treatments at Marin Integrative Recovery. We also offer an acupuncture-free Bodywork Treatment that includes massage and cupping, if appropriate for the patient. Bodywork may incorporate various types of massage including acupressure, Tui Na, and Chi Nei Tsang. Dr Noemi has been practicing acupressure since 2006, initially training at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA, which offered classes from 1976 to 2008.

Acupressure uses the same acupuncture points with gentle but firm pressure of the fingers and hands on the surface of the skin to increase the Qi and blood circulation, stimulating the body’s natural curative abilities. Acupressure is the most effective method for treatment of tension-related ailments by using the power and sensitivity of the human hand, relaxing the muscles and relieving tension.

Chi Nei Tsang is a Chinese abdominal massage that focuses on the internal organs, frees internal blockages, and eases the digestive system on a physical and emotional plane. It restores the energy flow and accompanies us in the detoxification process.

Tui Na means “pushing grasping” and is a powerful form of Chinese medical bodywork. Based on the same Oriental medical principles as acupuncture, Tui Na seeks to improve the flow of Qi through the meridian channels and is particularly effective for conditions involving muscles, tendons, and joints, such as structural misalignment, orthopedic problems, and sports injuries.

Cupping is an ancient technique, in which a special cup is applied to the skin and held in place by vacuum-like suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, resulting in increased blood flow to the area, improved circulation, and accelerated healing on a cellular level. It is indicated for relief of muscle pain and tension, respiratory conditions, digestive issues, hypertension, and headaches. Cupping is available as an add-on to Acupuncture Treatments.

CUPPING
GUA SHA

Gua sha involves using a smooth-edged tool to gently scrape areas of your body. It has a similar function and effects as cupping therapy but can be performed in smaller, more focused areas to target fascial adhesions and scar tissue adjacent to bones. Gua Sha stimulates blood flow, reduces restrictions in the fascia, breaks down fat cells, and facilitates lymphatic drainage. Of note, the Graston Technique is a trademarked form of this ancient therapy. Gua sha is included in acupuncture sessions as the practitioner feels is appropriate.
